Chlorine and Chloramine Reduction for Tropical Fish

Discus require very specific living conditions as they are a Tropical Fresh Water Fish. Most tropical fish require a temperature of 24-26°C, whereas Discus thrive best between 28-30°C. It is also imperative that the water is of the highest possible quality and free from both Chlorine and Chloramine as Discus are highly intolerant to both these chemicals.
Chlorine in water reacts with the living tissues within fish, in particular the gills causing acute necrosis in fish. Gill necrosis if left untreated can lead to respiratory difficulty and even death.

Utilising Pentair No10 Housings for his set-up, Mark uses the SPECTRUM SSP 1um pre-filter for particulate control, followed by the SPECTRUM PCB, reducing Chlorine and more importantly Chloramine levels to a minimum.
Here at Devotedly Discus we use the SPECTRUM SSP sediment filter to remove particulate from tap water and the SPECTRUM PCB carbon block to remove Chlorine, Chloramines and dissolved organics. We tend to utilise these cartridges on a daily basis as they offer an extremely cost effective method of water preparation that will provide your fish with the water they need to thrive.
The filters can be used to prepare small amounts of water for a water change, but do also have capacity to be used on larger systems / aquariums on a constant feed / drain set up.”
