Sediment, Chlorine, Metal Ions Removal and Bacterial Growth Suppression

Incoming water is pre-filtered with sediment cartridges initially, this prevents further stages such as the carbon stage from premature blocking. Chlorine and chloramines are treated with carbon to protect the fish from chemical attack that can break down a mucus layer on the surface of the fish which otherwise encourages parasites to grow on the fish. These chemicals also attack the reverse osmosis membranes if not treated with carbon first.

Heavy metals contained within water sources are poisonous to fish if available in high enough doses so these heavy metals are removed using ion exchange cartridges to target elements such as mercury, cadmium, zinc, lead, copper and more.Further treatment is available using calcite cartridges to modify pH levels (SRCA), softening cartridges to remove calcium and magnesium hardness causing ions (SRSO) and nitrate removal cartridges (SRNI).
